With the enhancement of national integrated strength and the intensification of the career about international spreading of Chinese language,an increasing number of international students had chosen to enter into Chinese colleges and universities to learn expertise or science and technology.It is worthy to pay more attention to the distinctiveness in Chinese learning and specialized courses learning among international students in universities of science and engineering.This group of people considers the study of natural science and practical technology as their main purpose,which leads to a lack of study motivation and initiative to Chinese language.This situation has not only affected the normal life and study to foreign,but also posed a challenge to international personnel training.This paper regards international students from two typical universities of science and engineering in city of Chengdu as the target.Under the guidance of the language attitude theory from H.H.Stern and functional linguistics and Needs Analysis theory,the paper uses the method of questionnaire survey to research Chinese language attitude and current situation of Chinese for specialized courses among international students.The data of questionnaires are analyzed by statistics software SPSS 23.0.The survey found that the proportion of international students with master degree and above is large in universities of science and engineering.The overall evaluation to Chinese society and people is relatively good,but to Chinese learning is unsatisfactory without clear goals.Meanwhile,they have already been aware of the impact from Chinese learning to specialized courses learning,and held a positive attitude to the set of Chinese for specialized courses.It seems that the contradiction between the popularity of this course and the need of foreign student has existed at present.This paper proposes some suggestions to change Chinese language attitude according to the problems that the survey found,especially to language learning attitude.Universities of science and engineering should concentrate on international students' particularity,and help to maintain balance between Chinese language learning and major courses learning by the way of setting Chinese for specialized courses.So that international students can learn Chinese more positively along with learning major courses to get the degree,and the universities can successfully cultivate international compound talents either.Besides,the research process and results can offer new ideas to international promotion of Chinese language.
