The report is about the translation of source text(text of English for Science and Technology): the Chapter 7 and the Chapter 8(excerpt)of Practical Petrophysics, volume 62.The excerpts mainly introduce porosity and the relevant methods and related information about water saturation.Since Computer Aided Translation(CAT)has been playing a more and more important role in translation,non-literary translation in particular, the author finishes the translation by the aid of SDL Trados 2014.Before the translation, the author does a lot of preparations: analyzing the source text, referring to relevant translation theories, collecting parallel texts, preparing translation tools and building termbase etc.During the translation,SDL Trados 2014 plays an important role, improving the translation efficiency and guaranteeing the consistency and accuracy of the terminologies.Since this EST text belongs to informative text, whose language is strict in logic, the author applies logical strategies: “logical judgement on source text”,“analyzing the logic of the source text” and “constructing logical target language versions” to solve translation problems. The “logical judgement on source text” and “analyzing the logic of the source text” ensure the loyalty and “constructing logical target language versions” guarantees the smoothness of the version.By case analysis, the author summarizes relevant strategies for translation problems.Through this translation practice, the author gets a deeper understanding about “logic” of EST text, improves the ability to use the computer aided translation tools, enlarges the termbase and translation memory, laying foundation for translating similar texts in the relevant fields in the future and providing relevant references to related workers.
