A Report On Translation Of Technical Agreement Of Motors

With the rapid development of China's economy and technology,foreign trade and technological exchanges between China and other countries in the world have become increasingly frequent.Correspondingly,the number of technical agreement signed has increased.Therefore,translation of technical agreement has become an important bridge of foreign trade and technological exchanges.This report takes the translation of a technical agreement about motors as an example,which is signed by an electrical scientific institute in Shanghai and a Chinese agent of a Germany motor company.The material is obtained from the translation company where I did my translation practice.This report aims to explore the translation difficulties and coping strategies of technical agreements.As an attachment to a technical contract,technical agreement naturally has the characteristics of a contract,and it can also fall into the category of technical texts because it involves technical content.As a result,the technical agreement has the characteristics of both contracts and technology texts.Thus difficulties of translating contracts and technological texts must be encountered.These difficulties can be solved with the help of the methods of induction,quantitative and qualitative analysis and related translation skills.For example,modal verbs can be used to express the imperative mood,sentences with no subject and impersonal subject-predicated sentences shall be translated into passive sentences,combination method should be used to translate long sentences with many sub-clauses,and sentences with technical knowledge should be translated after studying related technical knowledge.Through translating this technical agreement,the requirement that translation of contractual texts or technical texts shall be accurate,faithful and smooth,convey the information of the original text and demonstrate the imperative mood of contracts and the objectivity of technical texts is obtained.In combination with the requirement,the above techniques or else can be used during translation.Moreover,a list of terms about motors are obtained and the importance of accumulating professional knowledge and terms are further understood.As technical agreement translation becomes more important,it is hoped that this report can contribute to it and provide reference for translators working on it.
