A Practice Report On Yuntai Taoist Temple Scenic Spot Tourism Interpretation-From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

This paper is a practice report on Taoist cultural communication,and the project described is a Chinese-English consecutive interpreting project of the business tourism that the author has been responsible for.This project was organized by Mianyang Center’s Hospital of Sichuan and the author war arranged to service for a foreign ICU expert as a visiting scholar for two days.In this practical tourism interpretation,translation contents not only include natural scenery in the scenic area and its rich cultural background,but also the introduction of Taoism.The purpose of this project is to publicize Yuntai Taoist Temple and emphasize its status of Taoist culture,so as to help the foreign tourist never hear about the Chinese religious culture to understand cultural information clearly and properly.It is also regard as the improvement of China’s Cultural Soft Power.Meanwhile,it can finally exhibit the hospital’s sincerity to this visiting scholar and effectively strengthen friendly cooperation.The author searched and knew about the tourism features of Yuntai Taoist Temple,and analyzed the religious faith between Taoism and Christianity during the process of preparation.In the practical tourism interpretation,the author was strongly aware of the expressional differences in tourist commentary interpretation in England and in China,and then carried out the study.During the review of this interpretation practice in Yuntai Taoist Temple,the author summarizes the problem and shortcoming appeared during the practice.Under the guidance of Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory,and adopting Yuntai Taoist Temple’s tourist commentary interpretation as linguistic materials,the author also applied translation strategies such as: omission,addition,substitution,borrowing and paraphrasing in his live version of interpretation in Yuntai Taoist Temple.With the awareness of tourist-orientation,the author seeks for targeted methods can solve the problem found in the practice,so as to make the modified version in accordance with English linguistic features and cultural habits,such as for the introduction of landscape with subjective color in Chinese,translate it directly and summarized succinctly to let tourists enjoy by his eyes,instead of quoting Chinese rhetorical device in text.Meanwhile,arousing foreign tourists interests andfaithfully transfer local historical and cultural connotations.The author hopes that the report could give future scholars some enlightenment on research direction of tourism translation,especially the translation object is Taoist scenic spot.On the other hand,broaden horizons for on-site interpretation research of tourism translation from the perspective of Communicative Translation Theory,and enrich and extend theoretical and practical research on tourism interpretation by adopting applicable translation strategy to draw inferences about other cases from one instance and solve similar questions,in order to further improve the quality of tourism promotion text as well as tourism translation service.Finally,ensuring the normally exchange of culture soft power.
