This report is based on the translator's translation practice of the selected chapters of a book titled Franchising: The Business Strategy that Changed the World.This book consists of ten chapters and it mainly elaborates how ten world-famous companies become the leaders in their respective industries by franchising.Chapter three: Dunkin'Donuts: Dollars from Doughnuts and chapter eight: Pizza Hut: Franchising America's Favorite Pizza are chosen as the materials for translation practice.The report is written under the guidance of Skopos theory.First of all,the translator analyzes the characteristics of business English text and summarizes the problems encountered in the translation process from three aspects: vocabulary,syntax and culture.Moreover,with a large number of examples,the translator discusses how to use effective translation techniques,such as amplification,omission,conversion and transliteration,to effectively solve those problems encountered in the translation practice.In addition,to ensure the quality of the translated text,the author also adapts a quality control program that is explicated in an individual chapter.Finally,the report summarizes the experiences and lessons gained by the translator in this translation practice.And the translator himself holds that the translation purpose of this translation practice has been basically achieved and the translation skills of the translator has been improved to some extent.At the same time,those experiences and lessons can provide reference for the translator's future translation work and other translators who translates similar business English text.
