Translation Report Of Oil Trading Manual Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the development of petroleum technology and the thriving of petroleum industry,many petroleum literature has emerged correspondingly,which plays a leading position in the field of oil trading.Therefore,accurate translation becomes particularly urgent.However,studies of the translation of oil trading materials indicate that the variance of translation and inaccurate translation have led to a series of problems which have become one of the most serious obstacles in international communication.Further development of oil trading requires thorough investigation of the national conditions of both source language country and target language country.Besides,it is essential to translate oil vocabulary and compound sentence accurately.From the perspective of functional equivalence theory,this report explicitly points out that previous literature documents lack studies on the vocabulary and compound sentences in the field of oil trading.By way of case analysis,this report focuses on the characteristics and translation strategies of oil trading vocabulary and compound sentences.The vocabulary in Oil Trading Manual features the large use of international units,abbreviations,and some lexical gaps,and the corresponding translation strategies are the specification of daily used words,the accuracy of specialized terminology,the fuzzification of numbers,and the specification of vague concepts.Those compound sentences is associated with the large use of simple sentences and passive voice,while the translation strategies involve the deletion of original text,the transformation of sentence order,the conversion of words,and the identification of logical relations among sentences.The practicality of the above strategies is also confirmed by various examples in the text.By taking Oil Trading Manual as the materials in the translation practice,this report mainly analyzes and summarizes the examples of vocabulary and compound sentences translation strategies under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,which is expected to be helpful in the oil trading translation.
