As a great agricultural country,in China, the farming culture has already formed since 7000 years ago, when Hemudu people lived.During this long period, the peasants and land have been connected with each other closely. To the peasants, land is not only the resource they need to make money but also their hometown for generations. However, nowadays, with the continual development of urbanization, the requirements for construction land are increasing.Thus,rural-urban land conversion has become one of the most important ways to increase urban land.Nevertheless, this conversion also breaks the connection between peasants and land, changes their production method and life style, and then affects their happiness levels. In order to have a better understanding of the impact that the rural-urban land conversion has on the land-lost farmers, this essay sets their sense of happiness as the study object. The author employed the method of questionnaire survey and interviews of 100 land-lost farmers of Xixi wetland, analyzed the data, summed up their happiness level and related influencing factors qualitatively and quantitatively and finally demonstrated the total effects from rural land conversion clearly.According to the analysis, there are five factors related to the individual happiness:Human capital factor, health factor, urben life fitness factor, living security factor and policy satisfaction factor. In fact, after the rural-urban land conversion, the decent of land-lost famers' sense of happiness is just caused by the negative impact the conversion has on those five factors. On the one hand, the transformation of the identity makes the land-lost peasants ask for higher level of income and higher quality of life.On the other hand, lack of skills and knowledge, poor physical status and advanced age make them inferior in the urban labor market. Moreover, because of the cultural differences between cities and villages, most land-lost farmers cannot fit into the urban society smoothly,so their sense of happiness has been affected greatly.Based on such fact, the author pointed out that the authority should change the land expropriation system and compensation policy.By offering more chance to the peasant to join in the process of rural-urban land conversion and making new compensation policy that accords with the need of land-lost farmers in different age stages, the farmers can overcome their difficulties, rise the level of their welfare and finally become the real urban residents to share the modernized achievement they deserved.
