The Syntactic And Semantic Analysis Of Dui NP₁ De NP₂

In this thesis,we mainly discuss a kind of special Chinese dui-construction,such as dui ta DE yijian(for his opinion),dui laoshi DE piping(for the criticism of the teacher),dui zuguo DE zhongcheng(the honesty for the country)and so on,which can be simply summed up as dui NPi DE NP2,and from the perspective of syntax and semantics,the internal structure of dui NPi DE NP2 and the potential ambiguity are comprehensively analyzed.This thesis reanalyzes the various nodes of dui NP1 DE NP2 from the perspective of descriptive linguistics.Because Chinese prepositions are evolved from verbs,dui as a preposition has the dual nature of the verb and the preposition,in this thesis,only the feature of preposition of "the tendency of the action and object" is discussed.Through the analysis and argumentation of the Chinese language facts,we find that in this structure,there are many constraints for NP1,such as NPican be individual nouns,collective nouns,pronouns,etc.,but the demonstrative pronouns and interrogative pronouns are not allowed.For the DE,we think it is the ordinary relative structure of DE,which can be regarded as the complementizer.In this paper,the emphasis is on the analysis of NP2.Because in dui NP1 DE NP2,NP2 can be served by NP,VP,or AP,we discuss each situation respectively.We believe that dui NPi DE NP2 is part of the projection of a complete sentence,and the center constituents of DE is the object of a verb which is relativized raised,and then the verb is deleted.In short,NP0 dui NP1 DE NP2 is DE rived from NP0 dui NP1 V NP2.Specifically,NP0 dui NP1 DE NP comes from NP0 dui NP1 V[�have]NP,NP is a divalent noun;NP0 of NP1 NP2 is from NP0 dui NP1 V[+light]VP",and NP0 dui NP1 DE AP is based on NP0 dui NP1 V[� be]AP.The advantage this explanation is that dui NP1 DE NPAVP/AP can be united into on single formula.Finally,we narrate the ambiguity of tihis structure,and from the perspective of downgraded predication analyze the causes of ambiguity by applying the Valence Theory,and we find that when the downgraded object has the semantic feature of[?human],ambiguity will appear.To eliminate tlhe ambiguity,we can only put it in a sentence,with the help of context,and analyze it specifically.
