A Practice Report On The Translation Of Beyond Reason And Tolerance (Preface & Chapte ?)

The age of knowledge-based economy has set more explicit requirements for higher education,and the continuous development of higher education cannot be separated from the accurate ideas and concepts.This English-Chinese translation report selects Beyond Reason and Tolerance as the translation text.This book introduces the concept and practice of higher education in colleges and universities with regard to the present status of American higher education and gives mass emphasis on the concept of free education,cultivating students' habits and abilities of lifelong learning.The practice report is based on the Chinese translation of the preface and Chapter VI of the book,which focus on how to eliminate the inter-group prejudice among different groups on university campus due to different races,ethnic groups or religions so as to promote the inter-group relations and work as hard as possible to cultivate ability of dealing with differences and diversity.This report is mainly divided into four parts: the description of translation task,the translation process,the case analysis and the methods of thinking and solving the translation problems.According to the problems encountered by the author in the process of translation,this report mainly analyzes the translation obstacles and corresponding solutions,such as the translation of ordinary words in professional context;the use of collocation,derivation and coherence;the corresponding translation strategies adopted due to the differences between English and Chinese languages;the methods of amplification and conversion;and the sub-translation of the complex and compound sentences.It is cordially hoped that the methods and strategies adopted in this practice can provide some reference to similar text translation.
