Tolerance is about the history of human development in which tolerance is the most important theme. The author is a famous American writer Hendrik Willem van Loon. Chapter One introduces the task, the writer, the text, and describes the value and significance of the report. Chapter Two describes the procedure of translation, including the preparation before translation, the translation process, and the summary after the translation. Chapter Three is about the translation theories. Text type theory, foreignization and domestication strategies, as well as communicative and semantic translation theories are introduced in this chapter. Chapter Four is the core part, and the translator analyzes the difficulties from the aspect of words, sentences, and the stylistic forms. Chapter Five is summaries of achievements limitations that reflected in the translation practice. The report shows that it is necessary for the translator to acquire some knowledge of the background of the works, to value every step in the translation practice, and to summarize translation principles and features about the history works through her own experiences. The translator learned translation theories and accumulated translation skills, which certainly will give some help to the translator’s further practice and maybe give a bit experience to other translators when they are dealing with works of this field.
