With the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence(AI),robots are gradually replacing human beings on many jobs,causing the unemployment of the less-educated workers.In order to achieve the full employment of college students in AI age,many universities at home and abroad are actively promoting educational reform now and many valuable theories have been produced.In order to strengthen the study of foreign theories on education,the translator chooses the Robot-Proof: Higher Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence as the translation practice material.The theories about the university education in AI age in the book have high authority,which have certain significance to the development of education in the future of China.The report mainly consists of five parts.In the first part,the translator gives a brief introduction to background and significance of the report;the second part states task description,including the background of the source texts,stylistic features and the target readers of the source text;the third part is translation process,including pre-translation,translation process and quality control.The fourth part is case analysis.In this part,the translator generalizes the difficulties she has encountered in the translation process and the solutions at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The last part is conclusion.The translation process is under the functional equivalence theory of Nida,and the solutions to the difficulties for the translation of social science documents are as follows: At the lexical level,for the translation of technical terms and proper nouns,the translator adopts the method of literal translation,transliteration,amplification and annotation;for the translation of nominalizations,the translator analyzes the differences between English and Chinese.At the syntactic level,for the translation of long and complex sentences,the translator adopts the kernel sentence theory of Nida to make the translation process organized and efficient;for the translation of passive sentences and attributive clauses,the translator figures out the logic of the source text at first.At the textual level,the method of repetition and amplification is used to realize cohesion in Chinese.Through this translation practice,the translator has a deeper understanding of the characteristics of social science documents and works out the solutions to difficulties in the translation process,which will benefit her translation practice in the future.Hopefully,this report will have some reference for the translation of social science documents. |
