Gramsci’s Theory Of Organic Intelligentsia And Its Contemporary Enlightenment

The Organic Intelligentsia Theory constitutes the most essential part of Gramsci’s cultural hegemony,without which the thought of cultural hegemony can’t be theoretically developed.In the system of cultural hegemony,the problem of Organic Intelligentsia concerns about the roles played and the responsibilities taken by the intellectuals.It involves the relationships between intellectuals and society,culture,and hegemony and between intellectuals and members of society.With the relationships among the relevant entities being very complex,the first thing that intellectuals should do is to not follow suit blindly.Then they should actively get involved in the society,especially in the public activities,and subsequently criticize the dark side of the society so as to allow the people to know the truth and promote the progress of the bright future for human.This paper concentrates on the elaboration of the Gramsci’s Organic Intelligentsia Theory and analyzes its social significance.Four parts constitute this paper.In Introduction part,the background and significance of this topic are presented and the previous studies both in home and abroad are reviewed.This parts also explicates the methodology and the innovation of this paper.Chapter I discusses the historical background and theoretical basis of Gramsci’s Organic Intelligentsia Theory.Chapter II,the focus of this paper,gives a detailed analysis of the content of Organic Intelligentsia Theory,including the definition of intellectual and the distinctions of relevant concepts.In Chapter III,the author explores the historical values and age limitations of Organic Intelligentsia Theory,and analyzes its inspirations on Chinese intellectual theories based on the reality.Under the new situations,the roles taken and played by intellectuals in all circles of the society are getting more and more important.Gramsci’s Organic Intelligentsia Theory could provide some conducive methods in dealing the intellectual problems.As the socialism with Chinese characteristics is stepping into the new age,the advanced intellectuals of Chines Communist Party will play the all-round and multi-layered leading roles in various areas including building a culturally strong country and strengthening the cultural confidence.
