Quality-improving Strategies Of Escort Interpreting

Interpretation is the link to foreign exchanges and serves as the bridge of communication between China and foreign countries.With the increasingly frequent exchanges between China and the rest of the world,the demand for interpretation is also growing.As interpretation is not a simple speech act,but a complex cross-cultural communication behavior,the quality of interpretation,to a large extent,is subjected to the influence of a variety of factors.Escort interpreting is one of the most widely used forms of interpretation.The present study is a report on the author's interpretation practice for 2016 Travel Event by Touratech China(Heifei Tutaike Trading Co.Ltd).By describing the background of the task and analyzing specific cases,it aims to study the internal factors and external factors affecting the quality of escort interpreting.Internal factors refer to bilingual competence,non-linguistic background knowledge and analytical skills,while external factors refer to the speaker,environmental factors and time pressure.Based on those aspects,the author proposes four improving strategies:to consolidate one's bilingual ability,expand the breadth and depth of knowledge,improve field-work flexibility,get fully prepared before interpretation,reflect on and give a clear summary of the interpretation after the task.The author hopes that this paper would have reference for other interpreting learners.
