It is not easy for a native Chinese speaker-interpreter to fully understand Chinese while interpreting from mother tongue. If an interpreter only hears the words but does not understand the underlying meaning, the interpretation could be poorly performed. This case study discussed the importance of listening comprehension especially when listening to mother tongue, and the rhetoric, logical, cultural and industry meaning behind words. After analyzing the influence of inefficient listening comprehension on interpretation, the author proposed a knowledge pooling strategy and a targeted practice to improve an interpreter's listening comprehension and therefore improve the quality of interpretation. |
