| Explicitation was described by Vinay and Darbelnet in 1958 as the process of introducing information into the target language which is present only implicitly in the source language.During consecutive interpretation from Chinese to English,interpreters need to deal with structural and expressive differences between the source and target language,thus the technique of explicitation is required.Besides,since there are inevitable social and cultural differences between the speaker and the audience,explicitation is necessary to make the target language understood.The elements influencing the efficiency of explicitation are discussed by analyzing the interpreting transcripts of two mock conferences,where the two speakers had very different talking styles.This thesis also points out the limitations of explicitation.It proves that explicitation helps to deliver messages from the speaker more clearly and enables target language to progress more logically.Therefore,it’s necessary to pay attention to explicitation during daily practice.This study uses the materials of two mock conferences and seeks to answer the following questions:(1)What are the common types of explicitation;(2)How could explicitation improve the quality of target language;(3)What are the factors influencing/limiting explicitation. |
