Application Of Manchu Minority Traditional Patterns In Modern Fashion Design

This thesis studies Manchu minority traditional patterns from multiple aspects like composition,features and special language signs,and explores the application of patterns of ethnic costumes in modern costume design,with a view to seeking innovation methods of combining Manchu traditional patterns and modern fashion design together.Ultimately,it is expected to dig out the theoretical foundation for applying elements of ethnic patterns into the practice of modern fashion design from the perspective of design theory,thus updating the modern fashion design theory and building a bridge for following practitioners in terms of theory.The focus of this research lies in how to apply Manchu minority traditional patterns into modern fashion design.Taking the application of Manchu traditional costumepatterns as research body,this thesis aims at seeking typical patterns representing the ethnic characteristics of Manchu from traditional architecture,totem and costumes like Mandarin jacket and qipao and then incorporating them with modern costumes.In such a way,it promises to create costume patterns with Chinese ethnic characteristics that conform to the aesthetics and demand of modern people.“Explorative method” is adopted in the process of research,wherein “experimental research method” is also adopted by drawing upon innovation of Manchu minority patterns.Explorative method lies in collating and utilizing already obtained information,based on which the changes of Manchu costumes are summarized by referring to the costume customs,daily life and transition.Then,through site survey and historical records of the places where Manchu once lived,in-depth analysis is conducted from various angles in an all-round manner,so as to shape modern costumes with Manchu elements.The purpose of this thesis is to summarize design theories and conclusions by experiencing humanity history and ethnic design,and thereby bringing inspirations for other costume designers.This thesis takes traditional patterns of Manchu minority as research theme,with modern fashion design as research objective and the design practice of elements of ethnic patterns as main line.By combining the traditional patterns in costumes like long gown,Mandarin jacket,qipao and sleeveless jacket with modern fashion design,design methods are obtained,which enjoy common value of guidance.This thesis adopts “explorative method” to explore and create new knowledge on basis of already obtained information and to yield novelty and special results or products.In studying the methods of incorporating Manchu traditional patterns into fashion design innovation,the author utilizes a series of novelty modern design methods,such as streamlining,exaggeration,perfection,combination,coincidence andimplication.In-depth discussion is conducted of the key part as for how to innovate the Manchu costume patterns in modern costume design.The foothold and objective of this thesis lie in promoting the comprehensive development of Chinese modern costume and the reasonable application of Manchu costume pattern and culture in fashion design.
