This thesis analyzes and studies the cultural meaning of Manchu food and clothing vocabularies by using the theory of cultural linguistics and cultural semantic and put words into the historical and cultural backgrounds to reveal its deep connotation to understand the characteristics of Manchu culture.The semantic study of Manchu vocabularies is an important part of researching the Manchu language basic theory and is also a key and difficult problem.The food and clothing vocabularies are characterized the prominent ethnic culture.Therefore,the systematic study to the cultural semantics of Manchu food and clothing vocabularies will contribute to the systematic analyzation and exploration to the lexical semantics of Manchu language and the characteristics of Manchu lexical semantics to further provide a concrete example for the construction of Manchu language theory system.Starting from the concept of words and combining with the characteristics of the development of the Manchu food and clothing,the food vocabularies can be divided into four categories: meat and dairy product,Cereals,vegetables and drinks and the clothing vocabularies can be divided into three categories: Material,Garment and accessories.From the perspective of cultural anthropology,this thesis combines with literature records to make an explanation.The results show that when eating the wild beast meat,Manchus paid more attention to the selection of animal meat parts,but the processing method is extremely simple;when eating livestock meat,Manchus made good use of all parts of livestock;as for the love to the dairy food,Manchus were influenced by the Mongolian culture.From the perspective of cereals and pasta food vocabularies,there are many kinds of vocabularies related to “efen”,which formed the distinctive features of Manchu catering culture.Vegetable cultivation only plays a minor role in the Manchu diet,but wild vegetables are the main source of its vegetables.From the perspective of the etymon of liquor,milk,tea and other drinks,these vocabularies mostly come from the surrounding ethnic groups,which also shows that the Manchu transformed other ethnic culture by using its own tradition.In terms of fabric vocabularies,fur vocabularies are the most abundant,reflecting the Manchu had dressed in animal skins for a long time and showing the importance of hunting culture in Manchu culture.The results of the semantic analysis of the court diet and crown sho w that the female crown was influenced more by Mongolian clothing,but the male crown was influenced more by the Han nationality.At the same time,court food and clothing reflects the “Manchu first” and “Royalty first” in the political system of the Qing Dynasty." The Shaman belief is the original belief of the Manchu.The research to the vocabularies of the artifacts and sacrificial offerings shows that both of them have the significance of communicating with the gods.Cultural exchanges and interactions are the normal state of nation-state development and also are the key factors in the formation of regional civilization.There are a large number of common vocabularies between Manchu and neighboring ethnic languages,showing that the Manchu and its ancestors ever had some contact and interaction with various nationalities,which accelerated the development of the Manchu culture.As a carrier of culture,language bears a rich national cultural connotation.The study of cultural semantics is based on semantics and aims at revealing cultural connotations.Therefore,this thesis researches the characteristics and multi-cultural characteristics reflected in the development and changes of the Manchu history and culture by revealing the cultural information carried by the semantic meaning of the Manchu food and clothing.
