During the Republic of China(1912-1949),it leaded to the transition from ancient society to modern society and it was also an important period of collision between Chinese traditional culture and western modem culture.The commercial art in this period not only inherited the cultural characteristics of the traditional art of creation,but also absorbed the essence of the western art thought,and made a unique achievement.Therefore,it has profound enlightenment value and important research significance for the development of Chinese commercial art in the new century to comb and summarize the experience of the development of commercial art in this period.This paper uses the literature analysis method,the comparative research method,the interdisciplinary comprehensive research method and so on from the collection,collation,summarization and analysis of the"marginalization" historical materials and archives of the cover illustrations,commercial advertisements and memoirs of design characters,combs and reviews the evolution of commercial art during the Republic of China,from birth,development,prosperity to decline and transformation.The evolution of commercial art in this period presents the characteristics of imbalance,stage,pioneer and complexity,which implies the relationship along the inheritance.The period of each stage of commercial art style,design ideas and design activities were expounded basing on the perspective and analysis of specific cases and combining with the multiple effects of politics economy culture and education,technology and other social factors of commercial art developmen.The research focuses on the development of commercial art in this period,involving several major aspects of commercial art.Then,the development and influence of the commercial art transformation in the late Republic of China were explained.The formation and development of commercial art in the Republic of China were based on the coming of western culture and evolution.Looking back the development of commercial art in this period was to create and adapt to the Chinese culture with modern consciousness of art innovation system and also was a new proposition of the history which comes with the process of economic globalization and social transformation in Chinese.
