A Practice Report On Patent Translation In Chemical Field

Entrusted by Intellectual Property Publishing House,I participated in the translation of the chemical patent specification Combined Oxidation and Absorption of NOx by an Ionic Liquid Tandem Process,the time of which is from October 3,2016 to October 17,2016.So I am ready to base my practice report on my translation of the patent.In this report,an introduction is made to the process of the translation and an analysis of the successes and failures in the translation.The report is divided into five chapters: task description,process description,preparations,case analysis and conclusion.Task description part is the review for the whole translation task.Process description part describes the overall process from task acceptation to post translation.Preparations part describes the preparation process from six aspects.Case analysis part is the core of this report,introducing how I use the translation techniques such as linear translation method,inverse translation method and structure-borrowing method to solve problems under the guidance of “functional equivalence”.Conclusion part is the conclusion of experiences and feelings of the translation task.In this translation practice,I compare my translation and the revision,analyze the differences,and summarize the features and translation strategies of chemical patent,hoping to facilitate the patent translation work in the future.
