| This report is based on the translation practice of PCT(Patent Cooperation Treaty)chemical patent Photoresist Topcoat Compositions and Pattern Formation Methods,aiming to analyze the difficulties and summarize the translation methods encountered in the translation process.This report discusses the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory on patent translation and explores the applicability of semantic translation and communicative translation strategies to the translation of claims and descriptions of patent.In the translation of claims,the translator applies a semantic translation strategy and adopts the methods of omission and corresponding translation to translate the articles as well as dependent and independent claims.In the translation of descriptions,the translator applies a communicative translation strategy and adopts the methods of amplification translation,corresponding translation,creative translation,repetition translation,conversion of part of speech,and conversion of sentence components to translate the fixed expressions,specialized words,custom words,and compounds,as well as passive sentences and long complex sentences.Through the analysis and summary of difficulties and translation methods in actual cases,the translator hopes that this report can provide reference and inspiration for chemical patent translation. |
