| This translation project consists of two main parts: first,the translation of Chapter three of the book Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis;Second,on the basis of the translation,a report is written which includes the process of translation,analysis of translation and comments on the translation.The book Our Kids is written by an American writer Robert David Putnam.In this book,the author focuses on the growing class gap among American young people and the inequality of education opportunity in the US.So far,there has been not any translation publication in our country.With the help of Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory,the translator makes a detailed analysis and explanation on the translation in the report.The translator adopts translation techniques such as addition,omission and division during the translation process.There are four chapters in the report: Chapter One,task description,which involves introduction to the source text,motivation of the translation and the significance of translation;Chapter Two,process description,which deals with some steps during the translation,including pre-translation work,translation process,post-translation work;Chapter Three is the central part,which develops into three aspects—the introduction of Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory,the translation strategies and some problems of the translation;Chapter Four talks about the conclusion of the translation report. |
