A Report On C-E Translation Of Organizational Arrangement For Construction(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation

The paper is based on the C-E translation practice of The Comprehensive Environmental Management of the Project Funded by German Promotional Loans,South Bank of the Qiangjiang River,Anju District,Sunning City Organizational Arrangement for Construction.(hereinafter referred to as Organizational Arrangement for Construction)This text mainly introduces the arrangement of labor,materials,machinery,construction preparations and some construction procedures during the construction process.There are a few researches related to engineering texts in China,and the Organizational Arrangement for Construction is even rarer.Therefore,the author selected Organizational Arrangement for Construction as the source text for this translation task.Before getting into the translation,the author carefully analyzes the characteristics of the words and sentences in the text and makes a conclusion that it is a scientific and technological information text.During translating the first six volumes,the author summarizes some of the problems encountered: there are many professional terms without established expressions in English;proper nouns related to manpower,materials,and machinery;some Chinese category words;the sentence patterns are mostly active sentences,long sentences,compound sentences.The translation report adopts the form of case analysis.Firstly,from the perspective of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation,the author discusses the translation methods of words in engineering texts.The author suggests using free translation to precisely express the original professional terms,and adopting zero translation to express the proper nouns of the material,and applying the omission translation method to solve the category words.Secondly,it discusses how to choose different translation methods according to different sentence patterns in the text,such as division,adding and conversion,so that the translation is more easily accepted by the target readers,which is also in line with the principles of communicative translation.From this translation practice report,it can be concluded that based on the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation,the author can use different translation strategies to solve the problems met.This paper also indicates some limitations in practice.It is hoped that this paper can bring a valuable reference for the translator who will translate similar texts in the future.
