The original text of this translation report is Mark Kurlansky’s Paper,a non-fiction book published in May,2016.No Chinese version of this book has been found in the publication.Paper being its sole subjects, this book tells a definitive history of paper and the astonishing ways that it has shaped today’s world.Mark Kurlansky uses his plain and simple words to depict how paper has tracked and accelerated civilization. In this report, the translator analyzes the text features and the writer’s narrative habits to lay a solid foundation for the selection of proper translation strategies and methods.Paper can be classified as an informative text in the light of Katharina Reiss’ s text typology theory.Guided by Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory as the leading translation theory, the translator tried to apply some practical translation techniques to achieve the expected translation result in the translation process of the book Paper. This translation report includes the whole translation process, from selecting the translation material at the beginning to finalizing in the end. Some representative examples are listed as cases to demonstrate how the theories and methods work together.By integrating theory with practice, the translator devotes his great efforts to providing a qualified translated edition of the book to Chinese readers, and to deepening his understanding of translation.
