Comparative Study Of Chuabgse And Cheng’s Notes

Chuagtse is a classic work of Taoism.It was written in warring states,reflecting the situation of language using in Pre-Qin Dynasty.After that,many scholars successively wrote their Commentary and Sub-Commentary of Chuangtse.Among them,to inherit and carry on the spirit of Taoism,Cheng Xuanying wrote his Commentay and Sub-Commentary of Chuangtse(below called it Cheng’s notes)in the earlier Tang Dynasty.And this work also used language which was popular in Tang Dynasty to explain syllables and words of Chuangtse exhaustively.Cheng’s notes show the situation of language using in Tang Dynasty.Among scholars after Cheng Xuanying,there is barely no one studying language of Chen’s work,especially no result of comparative study of Chuangtse and Cheng’s notes excisted.So we choosed it as a penetrating point,attempting to know development and character of posylyllabic words from Warring States to Tang Dynasty.This paper consists of four parts:Introduction: brief introduction of meaning of choosen topic,current study,study methods,and introduction and choose of version,as well as the standard of polysyllabic words.In addition,according to some problem of choosen material in this work,we made a relative explaination.In chapter one,we compared Chuangtse and Cheng’s notes from perspective of polysyllabic words.Firstly,we counted the number of polysyllabic words,which Cheng’s notes usd from Chuangtse.Secondly,we counted the number of polysyllbric words firstly used by Cheng.At last,on the base of analysing polysyllabic words of Chuangtse,inducting the expansion of polysyllabic words used in Cheng’s notes: "one-to-one" expansion and "one-to-many" expansion.In chapter two,we compared Chuangtse and Cheng’s notes from the perspective of word-formation of polysyllabic words.According to analyse and comb the structure ofpolysyllabic words in Chuangtse and Cheng’s notes,we can inducted that compared to Chuangtse,Cheng’s notes used new type of polysyllabic words.And we made analysis about the reason why polysyllabic words in Cheng’s work changed.In chapter three,according to comparative study of Chuangtse and Cheng’s notes we did in former three pasts,mainly using polysyllabic words in Cheng’s notes as subject of inspection,adjusting from these three aspects:entry should taken but unraken by dictionary,example used in dictionary laging behind example uesd in Cheng’s notes and example used in Cheng’s notes but untaken by dictionary.
