A Translation Report On Gangtai Holding Annual Report 2014

As China’s economy flourishes,the demand for enterprises’ publicity and financing in China is growing increasingly.The translation project is a C-E translation based on the listed company of Gangtai Holding(600687)2014 annual report.An annual report reflects the operation and financial performance of a company and plays a significant role in its publicity,image and investment.Also,it is of great value for shareholders’ and potential investors’ investment activities.Therefore,the author has selected Gangtai Holding 2014 Annual Report as the translation project and analyzed the source text and target text from lexical,syntactic and textual levels.Furthermore,this report has discussed and summarized some translation strategies and methods which are used in the project.The author hopes that the analysis of Gangtai Holding 2014 Annual Report can offer some valuable references for annual report translation.This report is made up of four parts: task description,process description,case study and conclusion.The first part mainly introduces the source text,stylistic features and the significance of this translation project.The second part of the report briefly focuses on the process of translation: preparatory work before translation,proofreading and translation methods.The third part is the key point of this report,mainly centering on case study.In this part,the author gives an overall analysis on the source text and target text from its lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At lexical level,the annual report is featured by a large amount of technical terms and redundancy of words.As for the translation of these words,the author takes full advantage of parallel texts and adopts omission translation method.At syntactic level,this report is characterized by long and complex sentences,active voice and sentences with no subjects.With regard to the translation of long and complex sentences,the report mainly discusses division,reconstruction and reverse translation methods.In regard to the translation of active voice,the author holds that the active voice can be changed into passive voice.And as for the translation of sentences with no subjects,adding and changing active voice into passive voice are offered.At textual level,the annual report is featured by loose and unclear structure,thus methods such as conversion and adding cohesive devices are provided.In the last part,the author draws conclusions on major findings and limitations in the translation project.
