This paper is a report on the translation of the annual reports of four of the top 20 multinational companies among the 2015 Fortune 500.The author selects from their English webpages parts of their 2015 annual reports as the original texts,since no corresponding translation version has been published yet.Corporate webpage features a large amount of information,timely updates and rich methods,while the corporate annual report as the concentrated reflection of enterprise development,shareholders,customers and served communities,is a window for the understanding and interpretation of enterprise culture.It is expected that through the practice of the translation of the annual reports of the multinational companies,we can provide a feasible reference for promoting the effective dissemination of enterprise culture.For the translation of annual reports,the author selects the theories of recontextualization and linguistic adaptation as the guiding theory of this translation practice.After the completion of the translation practice,according to the practical experience,the author puts forward the translation strategies of the multinational company’s annual reports from the perspective of the recontextualizing linguistic adaptation theory.In this report,first of all,the basic information of this task,the translation process and several issues after translation,are reported;then case analysis is carried out from three dimensions,namely,textual,discursive,and social.Then based on the specific examples in translation practice,the author points out that the recontextualization of annual report translation should respectively adapt to target context,source context,and target context respectively for the textual dimension,discursive dimension,and social dimension during the process of translation.As for the specific strategies and skills being used for the translation of textual dimension,the author adopts zero translation,amplification,word formation,repetition,and positive-negative translation in the lexical level;and sequential translation,reversed translation,division and condensation,perspective conversion,and comprehensive translation in the sentence level;and cohesion and coherence in the textual level.As for the translation of discursive dimension,the author adapts to source language style and employsthe style consistence method in the language style level,and adapts to source text structure in the schematic macrostructure level.As for the translation of social dimension,the author adapts to the professional culture,the political and economic context of source language,and borrowing translation is also explored in this regard.It is hoped that this report will arouse the attention of translators both at home and abroad to the translation of annual reports. |
