| As an informative text,the annual report of a company features in a rigorous structure and clear logic.It is one of the best sources for readers like shareholders to learn the information about a company’s activities and financial performance.And,it plays an important role in attracting investments and establishing a good corporate image.This paper is based on the translation of the first part of the Fed Ex 2020 Annual Report,which mainly introduces the operation situation of all business segments of Fed Ex Corporation and the measures taken against COVID-19 in 2020.This paper mainly consists of five parts,including translation task description,translation process,translation theory,case analysis and summary.Among them case analysis based on the adaptation theory is the key part.From the perspectives of structural adaptation and contextual adaptation,typical examples encountered in the translation process are analyzed,which demonstrates the applicability of adaptation theory to the translation of annual reports.At the dimension of structural adaptation,the translator elaborates it from three aspects: vocabulary,syntax and discourse.As for the dimension of contextual adaptation,the translator analyzes it from two aspects:linguistic contextual adaptation and communicative contextual adaptation.In the translation process,different translation methods are adopted to improve the readability and appeal of the target text while retaining the characteristics of the original text,so as to meet the readers’ reading expectations.This paper shows that the adaptation theory can effectively guide the translation of annual reports,and it is expected to enlighten the future study of the translation of annual reports. |
