The History Of Youth Work In The UK Since Eighteenth Century

In the nineteenth century,with the process of industrialization and urbanization in the UK,a large number of peasants entered into the cities and became the working class.The children of the working class were faced with a new living environment.Because of poverty and lack of education,they are tended to be problem teenagers.It made them poor just like their parents.In this situation,in order to help young people successfully overcome the difficulties,UK had the first youth work program.For China,which is experiencing industrialization and urbanization,it will undoubtedly face the similar situation.Thus it is of great practical significance to study and understand the development of youth work in the United Kingdom.In this part,I will discuss the significance of studying the work of young people,the definition of youth and youth work and the basic research methods of this paper.The next three parts talked about the development of youth work in the United Kingdom.The first stage is the initiation of youth work in UK,focusing on the economic,social and ideological background,etc.In this part,I described the development of youth work during the mid-nineteenth century to the early twentieth century,introducing The basic situation of the important youth work in this period.The next stage is the development and growth of youth work.In this part,I will give the reasons why youth work could grow and develop,rather than be ignored.The next stage talked about the development of youth work during the two world wars.The last stage talked about youth work after World War II.We know that youth work encountered some setbacks during the sixties and seventies,and in the eighties it almost fell into the bottom valley.But now the British youth work in the nineties after the new Labor Party has been revived,and into a relatively more optimistic stage of development.After reviewing the development of the British youth work,we can see that the youth work itself with a dual goal,on the one hand,carrying the society for concernsthe problem of the society at that time,hope that through education made youth;On the one hand,is the healthy growth of young people itself,and social integration problems,also need to help and solve.The generation of Britain's youth work is to solve the social problems are caused by the industrial revolution,but if the unilateral emphasis on social needs for non-computer majors cultivation of the young people work,often backfire.British youth work in rapid developing stage,the history is to respect the enthusiasm of young people,attention to the needs of young people on the basis of established,which is now the British youth work still with great vitality of the important reasons.In addition,the government and non-governmental youth organization should form some sort of balance in the youth work,voluntary organizations has its limits,but excessive government intervention,will also be counterproductive,it is also important in the history of the British youth work.
