Research On Cover Font Design Of Art Periodicals In Modern Times

In the first half of the twentieth century of modern history of China,in the special historical background of domestic social change,in the influx of foreign art,advanced technology introduced,the Chinese literature and art obtain a lot of creative space.The rapid development of books printing and binding technology provides an indispensable material condition for the visual presentation of literature and art.The periodical and magazine as a popular and new visual media during the modern history of China,the dissemination of social civilization and enhance people's cultural level and aesthetic taste play a decisive role.Therefore,the font as an indispensable part of the cover of the journal,the design style embodies and represents the art of the journal itself,it has important artistic value.This article takes the font of the cover period of art journals in modern history of China as an exploration angle,and carries on the deep analysis and research to its artistic characteristic through a large number of examples.In the process of collision between Chinese and Western cultures,the font of the cover of art journals has experienced the stage of the evolution of the design elements from tradition to modern.The design and application of calligraphy,printing fonts and art fonts show a very distinctive characteristics of the times and the unique aesthetic characteristics.This book named "China Art Journals Review"(1911-1949,Shanghai Painting and Calligraphy Publishing House,published by Shanghai Pujiang Printing Factory,the first edition in June 1992)has been published by Mr.Xu Zhihao.Attachment part of the book as the research carrier and basis,recording 126 pictures of precious art journals covers in modern history of China.Through the collection,statistics,sorting,classification,professional scanning,production,then reproduced its original cover fonts,on this basis to study its diversified artistic style and the formation of the influencing factors.This article consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the background and significance of the topic,and the main contents and methods of this paper;The second chapter,the author analyzes and summarizes the origin and development of modern font design by summarizing the historical background,the art journals and the cover fonts of modern history of China;The third chapter,the author analyzes the classification and evolution of the cover font of modern history of China,in time,environment,technology,demand and other factors on the basis of changing,it is divided into three categories:traditional calligraphy font,standard printing font and decorative art font,through the selection of some typical excellent works,with examples to the specific and in-depth analysis,to study the diversification of the font design style,analyzes the layout features from three aspects: visual orientation,graphic arrangement and font combination;The fourth chapter,the author analyzes the influential factors of the development of the cover font design of the art journals during the period of modern history of China from the aspects of the artistic trend and the design movement at home and abroad.The fifth chapter elaborates the artistic value and revelation of the cover font design of art journals during the period of modern history of China.This paper analyzes and summarizes the typical artistic features in the development of the cover font design of Chinese modern art journals,and combs the development context with the background of modern history,so as to promote the application and development of today's font design.
