The adventure and horror novel as a literary form is quite popular among readers now.It attracts its readers with unexpected plots, logical foreshadowing and detailed expression and readers addict themselves to this kind of novel because it can enrich their imagination.Readers absorb themselves into the plots the authors have created and then achieve fusion of horizons with the text. But we cannot forget that this kind of novel also belongs to literature,so the translators should translate in accordance with certain translation standard and adopt different translation theories and skills, considering the characteristics of adventure and horror novels and literature so as to meet the horizon of expectation of the readers and make the translation perfect. The translation practice report is based on a short novel called Urban Exploration and the Curse of Chillingham Castle, written by Peter Rossi. This novel varies from most other adventure and horror novels which are far away from readers' daily life.On the contrary, this novel describes an urban exploration and a discarded asylum;it contains distinctive but animate thoughts, contents and logical structure. It also gives readers different enlightenment. In the translation process, the translator took about 10000 words to analyze and found out that Reception Aesthetics has played a guiding role in the translation and the choosing of translation skills and methods, such as literal translation, transliteration and so on.The choosing of the translation skills and methods with the guidance of Reception Aesthetics aims to make the target text more acceptable for the readers.By analyzing the source text carefully with the Reception Aesthetics, the translation version is relatively good and satisfying.
