“Dish-serving Dance” – Banquet Etiquette of the Yi People in Nanjian County is a monograph on the feast etiquette of China's ethnic minority – the Yi people.This book was written by Qin Ying and published in 2010 by Yunnan People's Publishing House which is subordinate to Yunnan Publishing Group Co.,Ltd.“Dish-serving dance” in Nanjian County is a typical example integrating diet with dance,which possesses outstanding historical,cultural and scientific values.As one of the common forms of eating and dancing,it also can be used to make a comparative study of the similar phenomenon between China and other countries in the world.In 2005,Nanjian “dish-serving dance” was invited to perform in the British palace,which shows that dish-serving dance can represent the creativity of Chinese nation in culture.The translation of the book is of great significance both in the academic and cultural perspectives.This is a Chinese to English translation report whose source text was excerpted from Part one and Part three of Chapter one in this book,which describe the origin and classifications of dish-serving dance.In the translation process,the translator firstly analyzed source text according to Peter Newmark's text typology.Next,under the guidance of communicative translation,the translator analyzed the difficulties,such as the translation of terms with the Yi culture features,official titles before the establishment of PRC,historic campaigns of China in 20 th century and interview talks.And then,the translator read some relevant literatures and dissertations for reference.At last,according to the different translation difficulties,the translator explored the translation skills to deal with them.
