Dish-serving dance is the banquet etiquette of the Yi people in Nanjian County,which is located in the south of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province.It is a kind of folk dance called “Wuduoha” in the Yi Language with the meaning that people dance when serving dishes.On June 7,2008,“Dish-Serving Dance of the Yi people” in Nanjian Yi Autonomous Prefecture was listed among the second batch of state-level intangible cultural heritage announced by the State Council.“Dish-Serving Dance”— Banquet Etiquette of the Yi People in Nanjian County,a book written by Qin Yin,a professor of Yunnan Agricultural University,mainly introduces the origin,distribution,classification and different characteristics of dish-serving dance on different occasions,and so on.It has a high academic value for the study of ethnology and cultural anthropology.Translating this book is of great significance for publicizing the minority culture and custom,and can promote academic exchanges and learning in the corresponding areas as well.The translator chose the second section of Chapter one “The Distribution of Dish-Serving Dance” to translate.In this part,the distribution of dish-serving dance and the characteristics of these distributions are mainly introduced.After analyzing the features of the source text,the purpose of the author and the target readers,the translator tried to translate under the guidance of translation variation theory,which is especially used in dealing with the problems in translating,such as place name,geographical location,culture-loaded words,classical Chinese,and long sentences.Meanwhile,in order to find suitable translating strategies,the translator referred to the parallel texts to deepen her understanding of the source text and learn about the translation method of the same subject.
