| The commemoration marking the 150 th Anniversary of Dr.Sun Yat-sen?s Birth was held in the Great Hall of the people in Beijing on November 11 th,2016.President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech.This report on Chinese-English consecutive interpretation without text describes the writer?s interpreting practice of the abovementioned speech.The speech delivered at the commemoration is rich and diverse in content and language style,including four-character idioms,proper nouns,quotations from Chinese classics,parallel sentences and other forms of expressions.The purpose of this kind of interpreting practice aims to convey the ideological trend of the Party Central Committee to the world.And fluent and accurate interpreting plays a significant role in building a bridge between the speaker and listeners.Before the simulated interpretation,the writer referred to relevant historical background information and analyzed the structure and characteristics of the material.By multiple practices,the writer has found that there are internal and external factors that place restrictions on the interpreting process,including cognitive context and objective environment.This report is divided into five parts: the first part presents the background and stylistic features of the speech;the second part describes the preparation work and the whole interpretation process.Then the writer introduces how Interpretive Theory helps consecutive interpreting to be more accurate and effective;the third part analyses the difficulties involved in interpreting at different levels,namely lexical,syntactic and discourse levels;the fourth part focuses on the strategies employed in the interpretation of the speech;the last part is the conclusion,which points out the problems that have occurred in the interpreting practice and summarizes the writer?s personal experience in the hope of providing guidance for future interpreters. |
