A Great Unrecorded History: A New Life of E.M.Forster is a biography about E.M Forster who is well-known as one of the greatest English writers in the 20 century and focuses on those obscure things that happened to E.M.Foster.Biographies possess historicalness and literariness, the translation should convey the same style.Besides, when I made preparations,I found that there were lots of historical events, fragments of letters and scraps of quotations which added tremendous difficulties to this translation practice. Therefore, based on above problems and difficulties,I chose the Constructive Translation Studies put forward Lü Jun as my main theoretical guidance.Lü put forward three principles for translation: first, translation needs to be in accordance with the objectivity of knowledge;second,it does have a rationality of comprehension and a general acceptability;third,it should respect directionality and schematic framework of the original work. Those three principles for translation greatly helps me solve the problems I met in the process of translation. In order to achieve the above three principles and make translation more appropriate, idiomatic and fluent,I chose the sentence-reconstructing as the main translation strategy, which includes adjusting sentence order;turning negative sentences into positive ones;turning positive sentences into negative ones;combining two or several sentences into one;cutting one sentence into two or several sentences. In this report,in light of the Constructive Translation Studies,I make case analysis and summaries according to sentence-reconstructing strategy, and hope to provide experience when similar difficulties arise in the future translation.
