Refugees from the brutality of war in the Middle East have knocked on the door of Europe and triggered a new round of migration crisis.Zygmunt Bauman, author of the book Strangers at Our Door, one of the 2016 best-sellers at the online retailer amazon.com,based upon his professional background in anthropology, sociology and politics, analyses the origins, contours and impacts of the crisis in this book. His insight and wisdom help people get beyond superficial stereotypes from the media and have a better understanding of the crisis. This paper is a report on the translation of the first chapter and part of the second chapter of this book. The translation is expected to help people in China better understand this crisis.During the translation process, the translator took Dynamic Equivalence theory proposed by Eugene Nida,Skopos theory developed by functionalists and schema theory put forward by British psychologist Frederick Bartlett as the main theoretical support, and employed a variety of translation techniques including recasting, amplifying, dividing and converting in addressing difficulties on the lexical, syntactic and cultural levels.Hopefully, the work presented here can have some practical implications on future translation of similar texts, and the translation can even contribute to studies in such fields as anthropology, sociology and politics.
