The book A Season on the Wind: Inside the World of Spring Migration written by Kenn Kaufman is a popular science reading about the spring migration in north America,which gives an inspiration for bird-watching groups.In the book,the author points out how human activities make threats to biodiversity and appeals to human to protect the birds,biodiversity and the nature.The translator completes the whole task with the assistance of the computer-aided tool Omega T and Google Translate.The thesis is a report based on the translation of ninth,tenth,twelfth and fourteenth chapter of the book.Based on Juliane House’s translation quality assessment model,the translator analyzes characteristics of the source text,problems of machine translation and gets the translation strategy in the translation process.Problems of machine translation are categorized into lexical,syntactical and textual levels.On lexical level,the translator resorts to the parallel text to find accurate words so as to make the equivalence between source text and target text and keep the scientificity of popular science.On syntactical level,translation of complex sentences is a main problem in machine translation.The translator adopts methods of reversing and keeping original word order in accordance with logic of semantic events to make the target language more readable.On textual level,substitution,omission and addition are mainly applied to solve problems in the process of correction so as to make target text more coherent and convey exact information of the source text.The Report includes five chapters.Chapter 1 is a brief overview of the task,including the background,content,significance of the task,and the layout of the Report.Chapter 2 introduces translation process,including pre-translation preparations,machine translation and post-translation editing and post translation quality control.Chapter 3 gives the description of translation assessment and analysis of source text based on TQA of Juliane House.Problems of machine translation and strategy adopted in the process of post-translation editing are also proposed in this chapter.Chapter 4 is the core of this Report.Some solutions to problems of machine translation are introduced with examples.Chapter 5 is the conclusion of the translation practice and the Report.
