The C-E Translation Of Auto Industry Research Report

With the further opening up of China's financial market,a growing number of overseas investors,especially QFIIs,tend to subscribe and read equity securities research reports on China's market written by Chinese analysts in domestic securities institute for reference.This paper aims to study the lexical,semantic and textual features of equity securities research report through case study under the guidance of communicative translation put forward by Peter Newmark.The industry research report is marked by concise and simple language with terminology items,jargons and some cultural-loaded words,which calls for the aid of special dictionaries for the correct translation.The titles of the report,due to the simplified brevity,could be rendered faithfully meaningful in English with the strategies of addition.The formal style of such reports means the frequent use of complex sentences,for which the translator needs to identify the logical relationship between the elements and restructure them through rearrangement of segments or transformation of some segments into clauses.Besides,given the abundance of repetitive messages in Chinese,the translator should replace them with synonyms or pronouns.What's more,the translator needs to add conjunctions and necessary information for textual coherence and readability.This paper consists of four chapters.The first chapter is an introduction presenting basic information of the program and the translation program management process.The second chapter focuses on translation theory,adopting communicative translation as the main translation strategy based on literature review and feature analysis of source text,and further illustrating its content and application.The third chapter is the case study and the main body of the paper,discussing the specific methods used in addressing the lexical,semantic and textual issues with regard to the translation of the auto industry research reports.On the lexical level,the paper analyzes the translation of pure technical words,common words used in a technical manner and culture-loaded words.On the semantic level,the paper presents the application of communicative translation in analysis of titles and complex sentences.The last chapter presents the conclusion summarizing the whole paper with some reflections on the deficiency of the paper.
