Li Jianwu's Conception And Construction Of The New Literature

Li Jianwu is a pivotal founder of the Chinese New Literature.His researches cover a wide field,which includes translation,poetry,novel,drama,prose,literary critic as well as French literature study.Li's conception and expectation of constructing the New Literature,like stars shining in the darkness,are demonstrated in all his works,especially in literary translation and critic.In order to enlighten Chinese writers,he translated literary works that were both pioneering and leading in the aspects of ideology and art,say,Madame Bouvary written by French writer Flaubert.With translation as enlightenment,literary writing as practice and literary critic as guideline,Li made a constructive effort in the fields of poetry,novel,drama and so on and so forth,in which his conception and construction of the New Literature were embedded.This constructiveness was mainly mirrored in the interaction among literary translation,literary writing as well as literary critic.The present thesis studied the translational works,writings,and literary critics made by Li Jianwu.It analyzed Li's conception and construction of the New Literature,which were revealed in the practice of translation,writing and literary critic,from the aspects of poetry construction,novel construction,and drama construction.The construction of the New Literature in poetry,novel and drama took western literature as its paradigm,and was under the enlightenment of the sentiment and ideology of western literature.This construction was noticeable in Li's endeavor in poetry,novel,drama in the aspects of translation,writing,and literary critic.The present thesis is divided into three sections: the first one discusses L's conception and construction of the New Literature in poetry,which is based on the analyzation of his poetry translation,poetry composing and poetry critic;the second section researches L's conception and construction of the New Literature in novel,which consists of novel translation,novel writing and novel critic;the last sectionexplores his practice of materializing the New Literature in drama according to his drama translation,drama composing and drama critic.It is safe to say that clarifying Li's literary conception sheds some light on the investigation of the construction and development of the New Literature.
