This paper explains Li jianwu’s dramas from the main three aspects: focusing onthe humanity as the central theme of his dramas, characterization and the arts of lines,and his exploring and practicing the nationalization of drama writing techniques bycombining Chinese and Western elements.Li jianwu makes use of humanity as the theme of his dramas. His theory of humannature is based on profound foundation of reality, regarding the complex characters’inner world as the object to write the contradiction and struggle in their mind becauseof the change of the social environment. Meanwhile, Li’s theory of human natureconsiders that humanity is dynamic and development, not changeless or eternal unreal.This kind of “humanity” is the general, not individual, and it is an important part ofnational culture. Man is the soul of the universe, so literary creation and criticismshould be paid more attention to “humanity” which is also the most basis literarymaterial.On the characterization, Li jianwu is sophisticated and meticulous, and he bringshis superiority of digging the psychology of characters into full play to see through theprotagonist’s psychological activities. The specific skills are as follows: first, thecharacters are depicted through their language and movement. Second, monologue isan excellent mean to display the psychological flow and changes of the characters.Third, the characters’ psychology flow and transformation process are directlydescribed.Forth, in some works, the writer uses indirect foil technique. On thelanguage, Li jianwu’s play pays attention to write the typical character’s typicallanguage, and the purpose language which is different from others. Beside, Li jianwualso notes for the change of language caused by using dialect and the classification ofliterary types.Li Jianwu learns from the Western theater techniques embodied in the referenceand the transformation of the "three unities" and “well-made play”. He combines therealism style of Western theater with liberal style of Chinese traditional opera together.In addition, the integration of structure, language and other factors of structure, whichmakes the drama has a blend of Chinese and Western aesthetic taste. At the same time,learning the techniques of Western theater, Li Jianwu has been carrying out practicedrama nationalization efforts. In the theatrical creation, Li Jianwu uses of imagery andmood, these first two Chinese classic theory. In addition, Li Jianwu also writes aboutthe influence of Confucian culture. Li Jianwu’s efforts of drama nationalization are also reflected in the following areas: event scene to replace, poetry reference,adjustment of the structure of the text, folklore, religion, philosophy, thinking, etc. Bya description of these details, Li Jianwu practicenationalization transforms a loyalwriters and artists in the form of Exotic.
