Since the new century, cyberspace has become an integral part of people’s daily life. With people becoming more and more dependent on network facilities, the importance of internet security is ever increasing.Hence in such a global environment, national security not only involves economic and military factors, but also includes social advancement, efficient and secure information system, electrical power, transportation and other critical infrastructures. All of them are highly dependent on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) which leads to the cyberspace becoming another important domain of warfare besides land, sky and sea. There is no doubt that cyber war will be a main form of warfare in the near future. Thus, it is of great significance for us to study cyber war in the context of the international community. Surely, translation plays an essential part in our work.Based on chapter five of Cyber Warfare: Its Implications on National Security, this report concentrates on how Huang Zhonglian’s variation theory can guide E-C translation. The first part gives an introduction to Cyber Warfare: Its Implications on National Security. The second part displays the overall task process, including preparation, translating and revision. The third part focuses on Huang Zhonglian’s variation theory and its implications in guiding scientific translation. The fourth part presents specific cases in the translation of chapter five of Cyber Warfare:Its Implications on National Security under the guidance of translation variation theory. The fifth part summarizes what the author has gotten from the translation work. The analysis indicates that Huang zhonglian’s variation theory has the role of guiding E-C translation of technical text to play. With different adaptation methods, translators are able to work out kinds of difficulties while translating. But, the methods must be employed in accordance with the original work.
