The Infinitive Translation In Popular Science Literature

Over the past one hundred years,the earth is experiencing a significant change of global warming as the main climate characteristic.Carbon Footprint has become a widely used concept in the media,government,business and other public views.The development of translation is closely related to the change of social environment.Especially in recent years,with the introduction of scientific and technological information,the translation of EST has become an important part of translation.The translation of popular science articles belongs to the scientific and technical translation,which has its own characteristics.Therefore,translators usually choose specific translation methods and strategies according to the linguistic features and their functions.Because there are many infinitives in this paper,there are various problems that need to be solved here,so this paper focuses on how to translate the infinitive in the sentence.The material of this translation task is derived from the The Carbon Footprint of Everything.The translator chose chapter 4 and chapter 5.This book was written by Mike Berners-Lee,the founding director of the association at Lancaster University and a leading expert in carbon foot printing and a principal consultant at Small World Consulting.This thesis consists of four parts,the first part is the introduction,introducing the background,significance and contents of the translation project;the second part is the description of translation process,including preparation before translation,processing during translation and modification after translation;the third part is the core part of the translation practice report,based on the position of the infinitive in the sentence,the author makes a translation analysis of the elements of the infinitive,to show readers the countermeasures in deal with these issues.The fourth part is the summary of the translation report,which is the translator’s experience and summary.The report attempts to reflect the whole process of translation practice.In the process of translation,the translator uses the literal translation,free translation and both,as well as specific translation skills,and trying to make the sentence more in line with the Chinese expression through many revisions and corrections.
