Study On The Relationship Of Social Support, Self-concept And Vocational Values Of College Students

Nowadays, most of the college students still be caught in the employment downturn. In order to increase employment opportunities and constantly improve the domestic employment situation, the Party,the Government and various circles of society showed great concern and taken relevant steps to confront the situation. Due to the joint efforts of all sectors, the employment situation did not deteriorate in the economic turnaround. However, The Party and the Government still give the the top priority to improving employment rate.In the Report of the Eighteenth National Congress, Chairman Hu emphasized that "a more high-quality employment" is a new tone in the future employment guidance work. Professional value plays a guiding role in the process of job hunting and significantly affects the quality of employment of college students. So it is essential to conduct a research on the professional values of college students.In this study, the author randomly choose 476 students from six universities as research subjects. This paper, using the "Social Support Scale," "Self-Concept Scale" and "College Student Professional Value Scale" as research tools, carried out a systematic research on professional values from the aspect of "Social Support" and "Self-Concept".The research shows that:The"Social Support","Self-Concept" and "Strategic Professional Value" of college students rang above the average level and relatively higher than other groups.(2) In terms of "Professional Values",there is no significant difference in students’origins,majors,parents’ occupations , career counseling experiences and weather born as the only child in their families,though its seriously affected by gender. In terms of "Social Support",there is no significant difference in parents’ occupations while various according to students’gender,origins, majors, career counseling experiences and weather born as the only child. In terms of "Self Concept", students’gender,origins,majors and weather born as the only child do not lead to significant differences.(3) The level of "Social Support","Self-Concept" and "Professional Values"of college students are significantly positively correlated.(4) The "Social Support" and "Self-Concept" of college students could predict their" Professional Values".(5) The "Social Support" and "Self-Concept" of college students could affect their" Professional Values". "Self-concept" plays as an mediator between "social support" and "professional values".
