I Heard the Owl Call My Name was written by an American writer Margaret Craven, which was a best seller in the 1960s.The translator chose the first part of the book to translate under the guidance of three principles of translation by Tytler.Through the analysis of key and important points, the translator has managed to seek appropriate solutions based on the requirements of Tytler’s translation theories.Guided by the three principles of translation by Tytler, the translation report analyzes the translation from three aspects:express the ideas of the original work, retain the writing style of the original work, and have all the ease of the original work. The objective is to find appropriate translation strategies and methods during the translation process to achieve the best translation effect,so as to make the target text readers share the same reading experience of the source text readers. The analysis of cases suggests that:at the level of reflecting the ideas of the original work, the translator can adopt words choosing and amplification to give a complete description of ideas of the original work;at the level of retaining the writing manner and style of the original work, the translator could use transliteration and free translation in translating words, phrases, sentences and rhetorical devices to represent the original writing manner and style;at the level of expressing the structure of the original work fluently, the translator could make use of combination and division to make the translation have the ease of the original work.In conclusion, under the three principles of translation of Tytler and combined with appropriate translation methods, the translator can achieve better translation effect and make the translation more acceptable by the Chinese readers according to the different features between English and Chinese.
