With the enhancement of China's overall national strength and the gradual rise of its status in the international community,China's exchanges and communication with various countries throughout the word have become increasingly frequent.Meanwhile,in order to respond the call of the "Go globally" strategy of the country,all industries,especially food industry,seek to enter overseas market,so the food law and regulation of the related countries needs to be known urgently.Therefore,the demands for the legal translation about food show a surge.In addition,there still exist weak links in Chinese food safety management system,so in the hope of providing some reference for the institutions concerned,the author selected to translate this book.The translation report,on the basis of translating a legal popularization text titled “Food Law and Regulation for Non-lawyers”,which presents the fundamental state of American food law and its related legislative and local law enforcement agencies for non-lawyers,introduces research on legal translation and on Tytler's Three General Principles applied and analyzes the contents,features of the source text which include rigorousness and accuracy,compendiousness and clearness,consistency and standard in style.In addition,translation procedures,including preparation before translation,translation process and quality control guarantee,are shown herein.The report explores how to handle legal translation by analyzing the original text with some examples taken from lexical level including the translation ofnames of abbreviations and names,terminology and “shall”,and syntactical level such as passive sentences and long sentences.At the end,the author realized her own limitations,such as a little legal knowledge.The author also found that preparations need to be made and all resources can be used by reading parallel text to produce higher quality translation.The author hopes that this translation of the legal science text related to food safety can provide certain references for translators engaged in domestic legal translation and teachers and students of food safety-related majors as well as food exporters and ordinary people.
