With the improvement of people’s living standard, tourism,a sunrise industry, has become one of the most vigorous industries in global economic development with increasing momentum and a large scale. The paper is a translation report, based on the translation practice of Chapter One in Lonely Planet:Scotland, which includes some practical information and suggestions on the activities, transportation, accommodation, and foods associated with the famous tourist sites in Scotland.During the translation process of the guidebook, the author abides by the theory of Newmark’s Communicative Translation. That is,the translator attempts to produce the same effect on the TL readers as was produced by the original on the SL readers.Communicative translation focuses on the comprehension of the receptors, emphasizing the readability and understandability of the TL.Therefore, the author thinks that when translating English tourist guide, the translator can transform the information properly while preserving the original meaning,in order to make the readers obtain a sense of belonging and relaxation during the dissemination of exotic cultures,This paper consists of four parts.Part One describes the project selection, text source, language features and the practical and theoretical significance.Part Two is a statement about translation process, including the preparation before translation, the analysis of the first and second draft, and the polishing of the final draft.Part Three states the detailed cases.Part Four summarizes the translation process and the author’s refection on the whole composition of the paper.
