A Report On The Application Of Word Combination In Chinese-English Translation Of Safety Management Manual

Word combination is not only in Chinese,but also in English.Since its particularity,word combination is always leading to readers’ misunderstanding of text in the process of translation.The translator selected the Safety Management Manual as the source language text of this translation practice and the word combination phenomenon in the text as the research object,combining with practical examples in the process of translation to study translation strategies of word combination.As an important part of Safety Management System documents,Safety Management Manual is with professional and practical features.The word combinations in source text are classified into notional words and function words to analyze Chinese-English translation strategies of word combination in practice under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory and Newmark’s semantic translation theory.The translation strategies of word combination are summarized as:the translation of notional words shall be retained its original features while the function words shall be focused on the features of grammatical function.This study based on practical text provides more significance and inspires more thinking on Chinese-English translation of word combination.
