| Western missionaries,taking the Jesuits as the main force,studied various aspects of Chinese languages and culture,which has become a great event on the history of Chinese-western cultural exchanges.Martino Martini is one of the most important characters who had profound knowledge of Chinese language and culture and participated in Chinese knowledge western spreading.In this paper,taking Martini’s views of Chinese language as the research object,subjective conditions and objective conditions that influenced the development of Martini’s view of Chinese language are explored.Based on the combination of Martini’s life and historical background,several developing stages of Martini’s view of Chinese language are demarcated and analyzed.Further,taking Martini’s Grammatica Sinica as the research text and some direct expressions about Chinese language on his other works as supplement,Martini’s views about Chinese language are elaborately analyzed on aspects of Chinese phonetics,grammar and Chinese characters.Also they are compared with other missionaries’ opinions about Chinese language in the 17th century.A Martini’s Pinyin Form is sort out.As a result,Martini’s views on Chinese phonetics largely followed Jesuits’ and contained a few personal features as well.Martini’s achievement in Chinese grammar study is combining western grammar theory with Chinese language.Finally,analysis and summary are conducted to reveal influence and enlightenment of Martini’s views of Chinese language,thus laying the foundation for the further research on Martini and his literatures in the future. |
