| The Academia Sinica was the most important comprehensive national scientific research institution during the period of the Republic of China.It plays a unique role and status in the history of modem science and technology in China.As the most important modem city for the rise of modern China,Shanghai is a bridgehead for the entry and localization of Western science and technology,and an important development base for the Central Research Institute.The article collects and analyzes relevant data about the Academia Sinica in Shanghai,using the statistical analysis,psychoanalysis and comparative analysis to clarify the development history of the Academia Sinica in Shanghai,for instance,the stage of development,the personnel composition and research results of each institute,and the political,economic,social reasons,even urban characteristics.The article discusses the relationship between academy with politics and urban development,the relationship between academic developments with leaders.It was assumed that the development of Academia Sinica in Shanghai directly determined the layout of Shanghai’s later development of science and technology,pointing out that the benign development of academic research institutions is inseparable from stability.The social environment and the necessary material base also require respect and support from all walks of life,especially politics.The most critical of these is the pursuit of academic progress and meditation on academic research teams.Therefore,though Shanghai is the most developed city in modem China,it provides a considerable material and cultural foundation for scientific research.However,its industrial and commercial nature cannot capture the contingent of academic research,showing the side of separation between business and academia. |
