The project report is based on the translation of World Employment and Social Outlook--Trends for Youth 2016, an international report downloaded from the official website of ILO (International Labour Organization). The language of the source text is concise and logical,in which ideas gradually present a clear picture of global employment situation. The source text can be classified into informative texts according to the Text Typology put forward by German scholar Reiss. Meanwhile, Reiss also suggested that different types of texts should be translated with different emphasis and strategies. As for informative texts, the translator should focus on the delivery of information and keep the translation equivalent to the original text semantically. The project report mainly presents the discovery and settlement of question in the translation to provide certain reference for informative text translation. In the project report, background information is given first. The translator analyzes the source text on the basis of Text Typology. In translation, the translator pays attention to summarizing and analyzing major issues and difficulties in translation, namely, great amounts of data, technical terms and abbreviations, and complex sentences in the source text. Through the study of theories, application of translation skills and researches on background information, the translator proposes solutions to the issue and difficulties respectively. Keeping the precision and logicality of data is the key to maintain the role data play in the text; following the conventions or consulting to parallel texts could be of help in the translation of terms and abbreviations; division and inversion are two skills to deal with complex sentences. Last but not least, the translator makes a summary to the project including some suggestions. |
