| Basketball was originated in Massachusetts,the United States of America.Since it has been introduced into China in 1896,basketball has experienced rapid development domestically.In this environment,competitions and leagues of different levels have emerged,especially that for youth,to train young basketball players and transport talents for professional basketball teams.However,compared with basketball powers,such as the United States and Serbia,conceptions and training levels of basketball in China are at a backward stage relatively.Therefore,it is significant to translate foreign basketball books on youth basketball training for introducing advanced youth basketball techniques and tactics.The source text of the translation practice report is selected from Survival Guide for Coaching Youth Basketball(Second Edition),which was written by Keith Miniscalco and Greg Kot and published by Human Kinetics in 2015.It is a basketball book specially compiled for coaches who engage in youth basketball training,containing very specific and comprehensive contents for teaching youth basketball techniques and tactics.In this report,chapter 3(Developing Offensive Skills with 10 Simple Drills)and chapter 4(Teaching Defensive Skills with 10 Simple Drills)are selected as the source text.Guided by Newmark’s text type translation theory and based on communicative translation,the report studies specific translation strategies for translating informative texts from lexical,syntactic and context levels and summarizes experience and lessons in the translation process.This report consists of four chapters:The first chapter is translation task description,which introduces the source text’s contents and features at lexical and syntactic level,and objectives and significance of the translation practice.The second chapter is translation process description,which describes preparations that the translator made for accumulating practical background knowledge and understanding the text type translation theory,and how to arrange translation process and control translation quality.The third chapter is case analysis,which mainly analyzes and discusses relevant translation strategies applied in the translation process based on the text type translation theory from lexical,syntactic and context levels.The fourth chapter is practice summary,which summarizes experience and lessons,as well as unsolved problems.This translation practice aims to not only improve the translator’s translation ability but also promote the introduction of advanced conceptions,contents and models of youth basketball training from abroad,strengthen the exchange of basketball achievements between China and foreign countries and accelerate the development of Chinese youth basketball. |
